Mondi Heralds Strategic Upgrades at Finland Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mondi Group announced that its Board of Directors has given approval for capital investment of €125 million at its semi-chemical fluting mill in Kuopio, Finland. The investment is aimed at boosting the mill capacity by nearly 55,000 tonnes per annum, enhancing the product quality, cutting costs and strengthening the mill’s environmental appeal.

The proposed capital investment will upgrade the wood yard, fibre line, evaporation plant and paper machine at the mill facility. The start-up of the upgraded facility is scheduled to be held in Q4 2023.

The mill mainly produces a semi-chemical fluting ProVantage Powerflute, which has become a key component of fresh fruit and vegetable trays and boxes, on account of its unique features including high strength, durability and moisture resistance. The use of ProVantage Powerflute has helped to substantially reduce the use of plastic and minimize food waste, the company press release said.

Commenting on the key investment, Andrew King, Group CEO, Mondi Group said that the company is pleased to extend its portfolio of sustainable packaging products to meet its customers’ demands.

The company had recently completed acquisition of Olmuksan- a leading corrugated packaging producer.
