SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Metsa Tissue, the tissue paper business under Metsa Group, announced plans to invest significantly in a new tissue mill in the UK. The investment is part of the Future Mill programme by the company, aimed at driving world-leading environmental performance in tissue production.
According to company announcement, the mill, to be constructed in phases over the next decade, will have a production capacity of 240,000 tons of tissue paper per annum at full capacity. The initial phase of production is expected to become ready by 2025, so as to serve the tissue markets in the UK and Ireland.

The location of the proposed plant is yet to be decided and is expected to be finalized during the initial half of the next year. Metsa Tissue cited Newark and Hull as the locations that are currently under investigation. The facility will employ best available technologies to minimize environmental impacts.
Announcing the decision, Esa Kaikkonen, CEO, Metsa Tissue noted that the company has been focusing on developing the Future Mill programme in connection with the expansion of its Mariestad, Sweden tissue mill. The studies have signalled the opportunities for utilization of more efficient and better technologies which will make the production more environment friendly, added Esa.
