Metso Group Announced Construction of New Kerto LVL Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Metso Group announced plans to construct a new Kerto LVL mill in Aanekoski, Finland. The proposed mill, at an investment of approximately EUR 200 million, will be constructed in phases between 2022 and 2026.

The new mill will have an annual production capacity of approximately 150,000 cubic metres, thus adding nearly 50% to the existing Kerto LVL production by the company. The technologically advanced mill is expected to consume around 375,000 cubic metres of Finnish log. The production from the mill will be mainly sold to European and Asian customers.

The mill is expected to create nearly 140 new direct jobs, in addition to hundreds of indirect jobs. The construction phase of the project is expected to create an employment impact of around 1,000 person-years.

Metsa Group, in partnership with the City of Aanekoski has already initiated a local planning process with the aim of expanding the production of mechanical wood products at the mill. A local detailed plan is under preparation to the land area proposed for industrial operations. The planning process will run until early 2022.

The construction of the new Kerto LVL mill is considered as an important step in the company’s efforts to boost production of products that store carbon over a longer period of time.
