Kuusakoski to Build $7M Wire and Cable Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kuusakoski Oy announced that the construction of the proposed $7 million wire and cable recycling plant is in progress as per schedule and is slated for a 2023 completion. The investment is part of the company’s previously declared multi-year green investment program. It must be noted that Kuusakoski had begun renovation and construction works of the plant last spring.

The plant will be capable of processing aluminum and copper containing materials and is integrated with the company’s copper refining plant in Heinola, Finland, which incidentally is the largest integrated recycling plant in entire Northern Europe.

According to company press release, the facility will be capable of processing whole of Finland’s cables, radiators, transformers, and other copper containing fractions. It will have a production capacity of about 40 tons of copper per week.

The new copper centre comprises of a pre-crushing line and a separation line. The pre-crushing line uses magnetic separators and windscreen to crush and separate the material. The separation line further granulates the materials into small particles to enable separation. The plant will boost domestic supply of cleaner copper and aluminum fractions to foundries and smelters.
