Japan scrap exports down 11.1% in Oct y-o-y

Japan exported 442 thousand tons of scrap in October, down by 11.1% year on year and decreased by 4.5% from the previous month

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): Japan exported 442 thousand tons of scrap in October, down by 11.1% year on year and decreased by 4.5% from the previous month.

Among them, the scrap exports to China was 187 thousand tons, up 8.8%; 246 thousand tons South Korea, down 19.7%, both compared to that in the same period of last year.

In addition, the country’s scrap exports totaled 4.2 million tons in the first ten months of this year, decreased by 22%.

Among them, 2.229 million tons were exported to South Korea, decreased by 21.8%; 1.893 million tons to China, down by 13.8%; 26 thousand tons to Vietnam, dropped by 53%; 23 thousand tons to Taiwan, down by 90.7%, all compared to that in the same period of last year.

It’s estimated that the country’s total scrap exports would reach 5.04 million tons in the 2011.
