In a court case held earlier involving Richard’s death, AIM was ordered to pay $107,000 towards establishing a scholarship in the name of the employee at the New Brunswick Community College. The company had pleaded guilty in the worker’s death. The released pieces of materials stripped from the metal shaft had caused a deep laceration of the groin area of the employee, severely damaging the artery, thus leading to huge blood loss. Initially, the company faced four charges in connection with the incident.

It was the second incident of worker death at AIM worksite in seven months. An employee of Deschenes Drilling eas crushed to death when the scrap metal trailer was unloaded by an AIM crane operator. A coroner’s inquest held into this incident had resulted in seven recommendations.
