Namibia Recycled Enormous Volumes of E-Waste in 2020

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The annual e-waste statistics published by NamiGreen E-Waste suggests that e-waste recycling in the country continued to surge during the previous year, despite being faced with Covid-19-related lockdowns and restrictions. The country’s e-waste recycling volumes hit new peak in 2020.
According to the report, the local recycling venture recycled a total of 135,220 kilograms of electronic waste in 2020. This is significantly higher by almost 26% when compared with the volume of 106,994 kilograms in 2019. It must be noted that the volumes had more than doubled in 2019, when matched with levels of 50,404 kilograms in 2018.

The impetus on the recycling sector by the country’s government, coupled with dedicated efforts by various organizations such as Recycle Namibia Forum has created increased awareness among the Namibian society about the problems arising out of mishandled e-waste and the need to recycle them in a safe and secure manner.
Mr.Per Hansen, CEO, NamiGreen noted that several organizations as well as households in the country have large inventory of e-waste, which needs to be treated properly. He reminded that the company offers free collection service for electronic waste in Windhoek and Walvis Bay.
