Money raised will support both Good News Project and the Merrill Area School District's NESTs program.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Good News Project is hosting an electronics recycling event at the Sell Building of the Merrill Festival Grounds on Jun. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. and Jun. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event offers a safe way for the community to recycle unwanted electronics while supporting local causes. Most devices like laptops, TVs and computers cost $0.49 per pound to recycle, with smoke alarms priced at $15 per unit.

Money raised will support both Good News Project and the Merrill Area School District's NESTs program. The NESTs program provides basic needs for students in the district, including clothing, nutrition, academic supplies and other essentials.

"At Good News Project we are passionate about saving resources and helping people," Executive Director Christine Daniels said. "This Merrill event allows us to do both! We help our neighbors in Merrill help their children, while reclaiming precious resources and ensuring that we have the needed funding to continue offering durable medical equipment to people in Merrill who need it."

Good News Project is a registered collector with the DNR and follows laws and regulations regarding electronic data safety. The organization destroys personal data according to National Institute of Standards and Technology and Department of Defense standards.

Collected electronics are sent to an R2V3- and E-Stewards-certified, DNR-registered recycling partner in Wisconsin. Since 2005, more than 4 million pounds of e-waste has been kept out of local landfills through the organization's efforts.

Good News Project also operates the Mobile HELP Truck, which brings durable medical equipment to the Merrill area twice a month.
