SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The community-wide electronics recycling events at Chaffee County have resulted in the diversion of thousands of pounds of toxic e-waste from landfills. The events held so far this year have diverted approximately 40,000 pounds of electronic waste, thus protecting the environment.
When was the event held most recently?
The most recent e-waste collection event was held on Saturday, September 27, in Buena Vista (BV). A total of 168 cars dropped off 12,474 pounds of electronics. The event, sponsored by the Town of BV, was held in partnership with the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA).

How were the collected items treated?
The dropped-off items at the event were collected by Colorado Springs-based certified e-waste hauler ITAD Electronics Recyclers. The collected items, including computers, small appliances, TVs, cassette tapes, and 8-track tapes, were transported for proper disposal and recycling.

The organizers noted that the increased participation by community members and the huge success of the events prove that there is a continued need for such events in the county and its municipalities. It also reflects the dedication of its residents to sustainability. Furthermore, they thanked all the volunteers who participated in the event for their valuable services.
