SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging major DS Smith announced it has delivered new e-commerce packaging for L’Oreal’s luxury product brands. The new solutions guarantee superior customer experience. At the same time, they are cost-effective and environment-friendly.
According to DS Smith, the company was approached by the L’Oreal team a few months ago with the challenge of optimizing the e-commerce packaging for their luxury products range. The two companies worked closely, despite challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. DS Smith is believed to have finalized the development process without any physical meetings with the L’Oreal team.

The packaging solution was being developed in three stages. Firstly, the company analyzed data to define the ideal dimensions. In the next step, it defined a physical concept in cardboard. As a last step, extensive laboratory tests were conducted, in order to ensure the strength and resilience of the packaging.
DS Smith has managed to reduce the void fill usage by 50%. Also, it managed to achieve 23% reduction in corrugated usage.
As per company estimates, Christmas purchasing is likely to result in 350,000 tonnes of unnecessary packaging.
