Coca-Cola to Build Mammoth Bottle Recycling Plant in Philippines

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc. (CCBPI) has entered into a partnership agreement with Thailand-headquartered Indorama Ventures to construct a bottle recycling facility in Philippines, which would be the largest such facility in that country. The construction of the plant is expected to be completed in 2021.

According to CCBPI press release, the P1-billion bottle recycling facility will be located in Cavite, General Trias. The plant will house cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading best practices for recycling PET plastic bottles into useful resins. The plant will be capable to process nearly 2 billion plastic bottles per annum and will produce approximately 16,000 MT per annum of recycled PET resin.

Gareth McGeown, Chief Executive Officer, CCBPI said that the company is proud of its partnership with Indorama Ventures. Coca-Cola has earlier partnered with them in developing the country’s the first-ever beverage bottle made from 100 percent recycled plastic, he reminded. The facility will not only boost the collection rates of clear plastic bottles, but also support jobs in the region, he added.

Yashovardhan Lohia, chief recycling officer, Indorama Ventures noted that the partnership, in line with the company’s commitment to sustainability, will help to establish circular economy for plastic bottles.
