Coca-Cola Nigeria Launched New Plastic Recycling Hub

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Coca-Cola Nigeria and its bottling partner Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) have launched a new collection and recycling hub in Apapa in the capital city of Lagos. With a projected annual processing capacity of up to 13,000 tonnes of plastic bottles, the facility is expected to strengthen the infrastructure for plastic recycling in the African country.

The new hub's setup complements the business's worldwide environmental efforts. By the way, Coca-Cola Nigeria has promised that its main packaging goods will contain between 35 and 45 percent recycled material. The recycling center is anticipated to boost local communities by generating employment, which will boost the country's economy in addition to fostering a more sustainable future.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics will be gathered, sorted, and recycled by the hub. Following processing, the PET will be converted into clean PET bales, which will then be utilized to create recycled PET (rPET) in partnership with other companies. The entire procedure will make a substantial contribution to lowering environmental plastic pollution.

According to Luisa Ortega, president of the Coca-Cola business's Africa Operating Unit, the business plans to work with regional and international partners to keep developing its innovative design and investigating new collecting strategies.
