China Releases New Batch of Scrap Metal Import Quotas for Copper, Aluminum and Ferrous Scrap

China Releases New Batch of Scrap Metal Import Quotas for Copper, Aluminum and Ferrous Scrap

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management under the Environment Ministry issued additional scrap metal import quotas for third quarter of 2019. The third batch of import quotas are for scrap copper, aluminum and ferrous scrap for delivery to ports in south, southeast and northern regions.

The approved quotas are for imports of less than 100,000 t of scrap metal. The import quotas are for additional 87,680t for copper scrap, 11,290t of aluminum scrap and 400t of ferrous scrap, said the press release. The copper scrap is to be delivered to the Tianjin, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Qingdao, Nanhai, Nansha and Wuzhou, whereas the aluminum scrap quotas are for delivery to Tianjin, Nanhai and Nansha.

To date, 452,559t of copper import quotas have been approved for third quarter this year. The country had imported 624,276t of copper scrap and 349,510t of aluminum scrap in the third quarter of 2018. The country’s scrap imports totaled 5.32 million t in entire year 2018. The to-date approved quotas of aluminum and ferrous scrap stand at 372,476t and 20,918t respectively for third quarter this year.

China had announced previous quotas on June 20th and July 10th. The first batch comprised of copper scrap quotas of 240,796 tonnes and aluminum scrap quotas of 54,256 tonnes, whereas the second batch was for additional 124,450 tonnes of high-grade copper and 306,930 tonnes of high-grade aluminum scrap. As per sources, the country plans to issue another batch of scrap metal import quotas in September.
