China Announces Second Batch of Import Quotas for Newly Restricted High Grade Scrap

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  The Chinese Environment Ministry issued a fresh batch of import quotas pertaining to newly restricted high-grade copper and aluminum scrap. The import quotas for additional 124,450 tonnes of high-grade copper and 306,930 tonnes of high-grade aluminum scrap were issued by the China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Bureau yesterday.

The quotas have been awarded to companies in the key scrap importing regions in the country including Zhejiang and Guangdong. No time-frame was mentioned for the quotas.

China had issued first batch of scrap metal import quotas covering nearly 123 importers in Jinhua, Ningbo, and Taizhou regions towards end-June this year. That included copper scrap quotas of 240,796 tonnes and aluminum scrap quotas of 54,256 tonnes.
