Catalyst Paper Tiskwat Mill to Undergo Temporary Curtailment

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Paper Excellence announced its decision to temporarily curtail operations at its Catalyst Paper Tiskwat Mill in Powell River, B.C. The announced curtailment will begin in the current week (the week beginning 22nd November, 2021). Also, the company hinted at possibilities of a potential restart in early January next year, further to evaluation of existing market conditions.

According to the company, the mill operations have been badly impacted by congestions in local and global supply chain, which has been further exacerbated by the recent atmospheric river event. The mills in the region continue to face significant paper inventory problems and transportation constraints, it noted.

The existing paper customers will be supplied with production from Crofton and Port Alberni. It must be noted that Crofton’s pulp and paper operations remain curtailed until 24th November, owing to outage on account of repairs and maintenance of its power boiler. Meantime, the company reiterated its ongoing commitment to long-term investment in the Canadian pulp and paper sector operations.

In related news, Paper Excellence announced donation of $50,000 to Saskatchewan Polytechnic towards creation of a student awards scholarship program, which will distribute $2,500 for four students each year over the next five years.
