SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Richmond, B.C.-headquartered Paper Excellence announced that the first barge was successfully loaded with chips produced by Atli Chip Limited Partnership. Paper Excellence owns minority stake in the partnership along with Wahkash Contracting Ltd. The majority ownership rests with Atli Resources LP- the forestry arm of the Namgis First Nation.
Under the partnership agreement, the company has also entered into an agreement by which it receives all the chip and hog production from the facility. The successful loading of the barge is considered to be a key milestone in the partnership. One of the Paper Excellence mills located n Powell River, Port Mellon, Crofton and Port Alberni will consume the first barge of chips, informed the company.
The chips were made from logging waste such as treetops, broken logs and chunks, mainly produced by local logging operations. By turning them into chips, the amount of usable fibre left behind, gets reduced. It thus ensures better utilization of forest resources. Furthermore, it also contributes to significant reduction in carbon emissions.
Paper Excellence is a privately held manufacturer of pulp and specialty, printing, writing, and packaging papers with operations in Canada and Brazil.
