‘Big Zero’ Aims to Reduce Consumption of Single-Use Plastics: EAD

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD) launched mobile ‘Big Zero’ installations, which will accept single-use plastic bottles from residents for recycling. The move is part of the Mission to Zero campaign by the agency, aimed at eliminating the consumption of single-use plastics.

The EAD noted that the big zero-shaped installations will be placed in key locations with high footfall, such as shopping malls, public parks and venues of public events. By doing so, the agency intends to create and raise awareness about its ongoing campaign and to collect maximum volume of single-use plastics. The first three Big Zero installations were recently launched at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, which hosted the recently concluded 19th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.

The EAD is believed to have signed an agreement with leading plastic collection and recycling service provider, who will be responsible for recycling of all single-use plastic bottles collected by the ‘Big Zero’ installations. The Environment Agency urged residents to make use of the installations and avoid disposing them of in a way harmful for the environment.

It must be noted that Abu Dhabi had banned use of single-use plastic bags since June this year.
