Anglo American Declared $26 Million Upgrades to Quellaveco Copper Mine

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In order to increase output and enhance the sustainability aspects of its Quellaveco copper mine in Peru, Anglo American announced plans to invest about $26 million in renovations. A technical report (ITS) has already been submitted by the business to the nation's environmental certification body.

The Insideo-prepared technical paper suggests five significant changes that should be put into effect between 2025 and 2027. It is anticipated that the complete evaluation process will take three to four months.

The research suggests installing new water management systems and improving mine access close to the waste material dump. Additionally, it recommends raising the annual flow of mined material from 140 to 150 million tons. The company also intends to drill to confirm additional reserves and improve its environmental monitoring plan.

While the other improvements are anticipated to be finished by the middle of 2026, exploration drilling is expected to continue for a longer duration.

The Quellaveco copper mine pit is expected to last 17 years when the suggested modifications are put into place. The concentration plant will treat the ore that was heaped up during active mining. Additionally, the Cortadera tailings dam will be used to dispose of the tailings.
