SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The aluminum packaging and recycling organization (ALUPRO) announced that it has launched a new digital engagement campaign, aimed at promoting the recycling of empty aerosol cans. The campaign titled ‘The Lonely Aerosol’ will run between 18th January and mid-March 2022 and will primarily target social media users.
The campaign makes use of digital animations to create animated characters. Each character will represent different aerosol containers found within our home. The fun personalities will educate the viewers by sharing critical information on recycling various types of aerosol cans and offering best practice recycling advice.

The online campaign is being run in partnership with cross-industry partners including Ball Aerocan and the British Aerosol Manufacturers Association (BAMA).
As per estimates, nearly 95% of UK councils offer kerbside aerosol recycling collection. However, only around 46% of the used aerosol cans are correctly separated for recycling by consumers. This suggests the importance of generating greater awareness among consumers, ALUPRO noted. Incidentally, aerosol cans has been the consistent topper on WRAP’s list of confusing consumer packaging types for several years now.
