The higher recycled content is expected to reduce the carbon footprint associated with the aluminium used in the packaging compared with primary aluminium.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis and Beiersdorf have increased the recycled aluminium content of the iconic Nivea Creme tin to 95%. The higher recycled content will help to lower the carbon footprint and lead to more circular packaging, building on the long-standing and strategic collaboration between the two companies.
Earlier in 2024, the two companies reached an important milestone of using 80% recycled aluminium in the tin. Joint research and development efforts carried out over the past two years mainly focused on alloy composition and production processes allowed the partners to increase recycled content while preserving the container’s durability, appearance and performance.

Novelis sources the recycled aluminium through its European recycling network, including its facility in Nachterstedt, Germany. The recycling center has an annual capacity of approximately 400,000 tonnes, supporting the supply of recycled material for packaging applications.
The 95% recycled aluminium Nivea Creme tin has been available in Germany since early 2026. Beiersdorf and Novelis plan to expand the packaging across Europe and other markets starting next year.
Meanwhile, Novelis and Beiersdorf said they will continue developing opportunities to raise recycled aluminium content and advance lower-emission packaging solutions.
The Nivea Creme tin now contains 95% recycled aluminum, up from 80% achieved by Novelis and Beiersdorf in 2024.
The companies conducted joint research and development focused mainly on alloy composition and manufacturing processes. The work allowed them to increase recycled content while maintaining the tin's durability, appearance and functional performance.
