SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Matalco- the subsidiary of Brampton, Ontario-based Triple M Metal announced that it has started operations at its greenfield aluminum alloys plant in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The production at the facility started November 19th, 2020, the company announcement said.
The groundbreaking of the 110,000-square foot plant was held in fall 2019. Originally, the plant was planned to break ground in April or May of 2019.However, the delay in obtaining permit from the Department of Natural Resources delayed it until October. The opening of the plant was further delayed due to Covid-19-related delays, thereby forcing the company to revise the schedule of its first cast date, initially planned for mid-November 2020.

The plant has an annual production capacity of around 230 million pounds of billets per annum. The billets from the plant will be primarily supplied to the aluminum extrusion and forging manufacturing industries. Upon reaching the full production capacity over the next few years, the plant will have around 60 to 80 permanent employees.
The new plant will allow Matalco to broaden its geographic footprint in the upper Midwest. The expansion will make the company the largest secondary aluminum remelt company in the entire North American region.
