Matalco to Shut Down Canton, Ohio Aluminum Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): This summer, leading aluminum maker Matalco USA LLC announced that its aluminum mill in Canton, Ohio, will close. Up to 71 jobs are anticipated to be lost as a result of the Stark County plant's shutdown. Built in 1996, the manufacturing facility is situated at 4420 Louisville St, NE, Canton, Oho 44705, and Matalco purchased it in 2010.

According to reports, on Tuesday the corporation submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) to the state of Ohio. The The announcement states that some of the impacted workers have been given the chance to work in other capacities at one of its other five factories in the United States. It also stated that bumping rights do not apply to the facility because it is non-union.

The challenging choice to close its Canton, Ohio location in order to maximize its portfolio of aluminum remelting and casting operations was decided on April 8, according to an email from Mark Zak, vice president of human resources at Matalco USA. The business is aware of the impact it will have on the neighborhood, Canton employees, and their families. He stated that the decision has been communicated to all staff members.

Brampton, Bluffton, Lordstown, Shelbyville, Wisconsin Rapids, and Franklin are the other six sites where the business is active.
