SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In April, China purchased aluminum from Russia for the highest ever amount of $612.1 million, according to the data of the Chinese Statistical Service, which was analyzed by RIA Novosti.

Deliveries in mid-spring grew 1.8 times year-on-year. As a result, the share of Russian companies in China's imports for the year jumped almost twice - to 39.5% from 22.7% in April last year.

In addition to Russian companies, large supplies to China were also made by Thailand, which increased sales of these products by 9% - up to 160 million dollars. The other major exporters, on the contrary, reduced shipments: Malaysia - by 7% to 137.2 million dollars, Japan - by 9% to 102 million dollars, and South Korea - by 3% to 74 million dollars.

In just 4 months since the beginning of the year, Russian companies have supplied the Chinese aluminum market with $2.05 billion worth of aluminum, which is 1.5 times the level of a year earlier. At the same time, in general, for this period local companies increased imports of this metal from abroad by 1.7% in annual terms - up to 5.6 billion dollars.

Russia has been reorienting aluminum supplies to the Asian market for the past few years. In addition to China, as the agency calculated earlier, South Korea, another major importer of this Russian metal, also purchased a record $126.4 million worth of aluminum in April.
