SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association has urged U.S. policymakers to adopt a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the nation's aluminum industry. It highlighted that both primary and recycled aluminum are essential to meeting the metal's future demand.

The association noted that increased investment across the entire aluminum supply chain is essential to meet rising demand from sectors such as transportation, defense, energy, construction, and advanced manufacturing. Furthermore, it stressed the need for expanding both primary aluminum and recycled aluminum together, rather than considering them as competing alternatives.
According to the industry body, domestic primary aluminum production has fallen sharply over the past several decades. As a result, the United States now depends on imports for most of its primary metal requirements. At the same time, secondary aluminum now accounts for the majority of U.S. aluminum production.
The association called for policies that encourage investment in recycling facilities, modern sorting technologies, and domestic secondary aluminum production. The Aluminum Association also backed stronger trade enforcement measures, including tariffs, stricter import monitoring, and action against unfair trade practices.
