SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Germany-based ALBA Group has been selected by the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore to provide leadership to implementation and operation of the country’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) system for used electronics. The license has been granted for a period of five years from 1st July, 2021 to 30th June, 2026.
The electronic scrap items that fall under the EPR scheme includes large appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and dryers, IT equipment such as computers, printers and mobile phones, batteries, lamps and solar photovoltaic cells.

According to the agreement between NEA and ALBA Group, the latter has to provide convenient e-scrap drop-off facilities at convenient locations. In addition, the company has to arrange scheduled collection drives and door-step collection services. The obsolete electronics thus collected would be sent to certified e-scrap recycling facilities for proper treatment. The volume of electronics scrap collected via various programs must have to be informed to the NEA at stipulated intervals.
ALBA’s excellent track record in successfully operating EPR programs in Germany and Hong Kong prompted NEA to appoint ALBA. Moreover, the company, which already has local presence, is quite familiar with the local waste landscape and e-waste recycling industry in the country, NEA noted.
