The United States produced 1.725 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In the week ending May 3, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production increased by about 1.4%, according to the most current weekly domestic production numbers released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This was based on a comparison between this week and the same week last year.
Over the course of the week, the United States produced 1.725 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel. The domestic mills were operating at 76.8% capacity. Recall that during the same week last year, production totaled 1.701 million NT, with a somewhat higher capacity utilization rate of 76.6%.

The production for the week ending May 3, 2025, grew 1.1% over the previous week, which ended on April 26, 2025, when crude steel output totaled 1.706 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 76.0%.
The Southern region produced the most, with 737,000 net tons. The Great Lakes region produced 548,000 net tons during the week. Other regions' productions (in thousand net tons) are North East-132, Midwest-237, and Western-71.
As of May 3, 2025, the adjusted year-to-date output was 29.326 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 74.8%. This represents a 1.0% decrease from the same time in 2024, when production was 29.625 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.9%.
