The AISI research estimates that for March of this year, the market share of imported finished steel was 21%.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest figures available from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that in March of this year, a total of 2.495 million net tons of steel were imported. This represents a noteworthy 11.4% rise in imports compared to the previous month. In addition, an 11.9% increase of 1.819 million net tons of finished steel were imported during the month.

Reinforcing bars were the completed steel product with the largest increase in import volumes, with import volumes up by over 86% compared to February of this year. Additionally, line pipe imports rose 48% month over month, a significant rise. The top offshore suppliers during the month were South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada.
During the 12-month period from April 2024 to March 2025, imports of steel rose 3.6% overall and 1.6% in finished steel.
According to AISI study, 21% of the market was made up of imported finished steel in March of this year.
Tin plates and all other metallic-coated sheets and strips saw a notable increase in imports over the 12-month period from April 2024 to March 2025 when compared to the preceding 12-month period. Imports of these products increased by 67% and 27%, respectively. The imports of wire rods and cold rolled sheets also edged higher by 24% and 19% respectively.
