The boxboard operating rate dropped by 1.8 points to 87.6%.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) released the Q2 2025 Containerboard Quarterly report.
According to the report, total Containerboard production in Q2 recorded 5% decline, upon comparison with the corresponding quarter a year before. The production was down by 3% during the initial six-month period of the current year.

All of the major grades' operating rates decreased from the previous quarter, with the total operating rate showing a 2.7-point drop. Export-oriented manufacturing has decreased by over 12% so far this year. There was a little 1.2% decrease in domestic new supply. According to the AF&PA quarterly report, mill stockpiles reached their highest point in more than 15 months in May, but then marginally declined to conclude the quarter at 433 thousand short tons.
According to the Q2 2025 Boxboard Quarterly report, compared to Q2 2024, the total amount of boxboards produced in Q2 of this year stayed virtually unchanged. At 87.6%, the boxboard operating rate fell 1.8 points.
Solid bleached boxboard manufacturing in the country increased by 6% annually. The second quarter of this year saw a 10% increase in plate, dish, and tray manufacturing. Additionally, compared to the previous quarter, there was a 4% increase in uncoated recycled boxboard unmade orders.
