SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) has partnered with BCG to launch ‘Solution Model’ playbook aimed at preventing leakage of plastic waste into the environment and promoting the transition into a circular economy.
The Solution Model playbook outlines the challenges presented by each solution, ways to address them and presents a framework to enable conditions necessary for success. These Solution Models will be further developed and scaled to commercial levels in collaboration with a network of partners.
The AEPW has published first two in a series of ‘Solution Model’ playbooks.
The first playbook focuses on household waste segregation, which it thinks will play a key role in significantly improving the volume and quality of materials collected for recycling. It describes the various steps taken by its partners in countries such as Argentina, China, India and Indonesia in implementing projects aimed at encouraging households to separate waste at source.
Meantime, the second playbook highlights the improved value recovery of plastic waste for recycling. It highlights the use of simple and low-cost equipment to improve the ergonomics and speed of basic manual sorting, mapping it with projects implemented in Brazil, China, Indonesia and Kenya.
