Mining News  |  2026-07-23 11:25:48

During the first half of 2026, copper production declined 3.2% to 515,675 tonnes, reflecting lower ore grades at the company's Peruvian operations.

Summary
  • Strong financial growth: Q2 2026 consolidated sales rose 33.8% to US$11.28 billion, with Mining Division revenue up 39.5% on higher copper prices and silver sales.
  • Mixed operating performance: First-half copper production fell 3.2% due to lower ore grades in Peru, while gold output increased 7.7% and silver production rose 2.9%.
  • U.S. expansion plans: Grupo México is evaluating expansions at the Ray and Silver Bell mines and upgrading the Hayden Smelter and Amarillo Refinery.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Grupo México reported strong financial results for the second quarter of 2026, primarily driven by higher copper and precious metal prices. Also, the company outlined major expansion plans aimed at increasing copper production in the United States

According to a company news release, its consolidated sales reached US$11.28 billion during the quarter, representing a 33.8% increase from the same period in 2025. The growth was mainly driven by the Mining Division, with revenue climbing 39.5% to US$9.3 billion, supported by stronger copper prices and increased sales volumes of silver.

The Transportation Division posted revenue of US$1.87 billion, up 14.9% year over year. However, the Infrastructure Division reported net sales of US$278 million, down 18.7%, mainly due to reduced activity from PEMEX oil rigs and lower natural gas prices.

During the first half of 2026, copper production declined 3.2% to 515,675 tonnes, reflecting lower ore grades at the company's Peruvian operations. Higher output from mines in Mexico and the United States partly offset the decline. Meanwhile, gold and silver production rose 7.7% and 2.9%, respectively.

Grupo México's first-half consolidated EBITDA climbed 49.6% year over year to US$6.85 billion.

Looking ahead, Grupo México is evaluating several U.S. mining and processing projects, including expansions at the Ray and Silver Bell mines and the modernization of the Hayden Smelter and Amarillo Refinery.
