SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of October this year.

China topped the list, with the country’s output registering 11% surge over the same month a year before. The country’s crude steel output totalled 79.8 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first ten months of the current year totalled 860.6 Mt, modestly down by 2.2% over the same period in 2021.

India’s estimated output, at 10.5 Mt, recorded a surge by 2.7% over October 2021. The country produced 103.8 Mt of steel during Jan-Oct ’22, significantly higher by 6.1% over the previous year.  Incidentally, India was one among the three countries to report year-on-year surge in output, the others being China and Iran. The Japanese output dipped sharply by 10.6% during the month to total 7.3 Mt, while its output was down by 6.5% over Jan-Oct ’21 to total 75.2 Mt until October this year.

The U.S. produced 6.7 Mt during the month, down by 8.9% year-on-year. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.8 Mt, down by 11.5% year-on-year. The output (in Mt) by other countries that featured in the top ten list is as follows: South Korea (5.1), Germany (3.1), Turkiye (2.9), Iran (2.9) and Brazil (2.8). Turkiye recorded largest year-on-year dip in steel output during the month, falling significantly by 17.8% from October last year.
