The production of crude steel increased year over year in Africa, North America and South America.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 70 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) produced 151.4 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel in June of this year, falling sharply by 5.8% from the same month the previous year.
With 112.9 Mt of steel produced during the month, Asia and Oceania was the region with the highest production. With 10.4 Mt, the EU-27 region was the second-largest producer. With an 8.7 Mt production, the North American countries came in third. Africa (1.7), South America (3.5), the Middle East (4.3), Other Europe (3.3), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (6.7) are the other regions' respective outputs (in Mt).

Crude steel production rose annually in North America, South America, and Africa. The largest rise in steel output was in the African region, which had a 3.0% increase over the same month the previous year.
Reports indicate that production declined at all other locations during the month. At 8.8%, the production decrease was the most in Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine region. Over the past year, the production of crude steel in the EU-27 and Other Europe regions fell by 8.2% and 8.4%, respectively. The output from Asia and Oceania also decreased by 6.2%.
The combined output for the first half of 2025 was 934.3 Mt, 2.2% less than the same six-month period in 2024, according to worldsteel data.
