World Crude Steel Output Soared 4.6% Till July '19

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The crude steel output by the world countries continued to maintain positive trend, says the latest production statistics published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). The cumulative production during the initial seven-month period of the year surged higher by 4.6%, upon comparison with the previous year, led by strong Chinese output.

The output totalled 1.084 billion tonnes from January to July this year. The steel production by world countries had equalled only 1.037 billion tonnes in Jan-July ’18.

The Asian region accounted for almost 72% of the global steel production during this period. The regional output totalled 775.093 million tonnes (Mt). The Chinese output was up from the previous year by 9%. The Middle East production surged higher by 4.2% year-on-year, worldsteel data said.

The African crude steel production too was up marginally by 1.7% when matched with the previous year. The North American production edged higher by 1.7%, whereas South America recorded 5.3% annual decline in output.

The steel output by EU-28 countries was down marginally by 2.4%. The output by other European countries tumbled by 8.5% upon comparison with Jan-July ‘18. The steel output dropped significantly by 7.6% in the Oceania region. The CIS steel output rose by 0.6% year-on-year during the first seven months of 2019.
