The Other Europe, with a 0.5% decrease in output from April 2024, experienced the smallest annual output decline this year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In April of this year, 155.7 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel were produced by the 69 countries that are members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), a marginal 0.3% drop from the same month the year before.

Asia and Oceania was the region that produced the most steel during the month, with 115.0 Mt. The EU-27 region was the second-largest producer with 11.1 Mt. The North American nations ranked third with a production of 9.0 Mt. The other regions' output (in Mt) is divided as follows: Africa (1.9), South America (3.3), the Middle East (5.2), Other Europe (3.4), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (6.9).

The African region had an annual increase in crude steel production. Over the course of the month, the region's steel production rose by a mild 6.3%. The output in the Middle East increased by 2.2% annually. The regions of Asia and Oceania and North America saw slight increases of 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively.


Reports indicate that production declined at all other locations during the month. Russia and other CIS+Ukraine saw the biggest production loss, at 4.4%. Compared to the previous year, the production of crude steel fell 2.6% in the EU-27 and 2.4% in South America.

This year's smallest annual output fall was in Other Europe, when output fell by 0.5% from April 2024.

The total output for the first four months of 2025 was 624.4 Mt, 0.4% less than the same time in 2024, according to worldsteel data.
