The production of crude steel reported year-on-year increase only in Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): 69 nations who are members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) produced 151.4 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel in January of this year, a significant decrease of 4.4% from the same month the previous year.

The region that produced the most steel for the month was Asia and Oceania, with 112.3 Mt. The EU-27 region was the second-largest producer, with 10.3 Mt produced. The North American nations ranked third with a production of 9.0 Mt. The remaining regions' output (in Mt) is divided as follows: Africa (1.9), South America (3.2), the Middle East (4.2), Other Europe (3.5), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (7.0).

Only Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine reported increases in crude steel production year over year. The first month of the year saw a little 1.4% increase in the region's steel production.

Reports indicate that throughout the month, production declined in all other regions. With a 15.3% decrease in production, the Middle East had the worst drop. The amounts of crude steel produced in South America and Other Europe fell by 9.8% and 6.8%, respectively, year over year.

North America recorded the smallest annual output decline in January of this year, with a 0.5% drop in output compared to January 2024.
