SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Gold Council (WGC) announced central bank gold statistics for the month of June 2025.
Net purchases in June 2025
According to a recent study published by the Gold Trade Association, the world's central banks reported net gold purchases of 22 tonnes in June of this year. For the third consecutive month, the demand showed a slight increase from month to month.
The leading gold purchaser
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan was the biggest purchaser in June 2025, contributing 9 tonnes to its reserves, according to Krishan Gopaul, Senior Analyst-EMEA at the WGC. A four-month selling streak was ended by the bank.
Other key gold buyers
Another significant buyer was the National Bank of Kazakhstan, which bought seven tons of gold per month. Gold acquisitions of two tonnes apiece were disclosed by the central banks of China, the Czech Republic, and Turkey. Banks in Ghana, the Philippines, Qatar, and the Kyrgyz Republic each purchased one tonne of gold.
The only seller of gold
Meanwhile, 6 tons of gold were sold in June of this year, according to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
Cumulative gold purchases in H1 2025
Compared to 130 tonnes over the same six-month period in 2024, the international central banks reported net buying of 123 tonnes in H1 2025, a modest decrease. With 67 tons added so far this year, the National Bank of Poland was the biggest buyer of gold recorded in H1. The central banks of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were the other top purchasers.
