WGC Named CEO of Wheaton Precious Metals as its New Chair

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Gold Council (WGC) announced appointment of Randy Smallwood as its new Chair. Randy is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. He replaces Kelvin Dushnisky, who recently resigned from his role as CEO of AngloGold.

Smallwood originally started his career as an exploration geologist with Wheaton River Minerals. In 2001, he was promoted as director of project development. He joined the Wheaton team on a full time basis in 2007 as the executive vice president of corporate development. He was appointed President in 2010 and was named as the company’s CEO in 2011.

Commenting on his appointment, Smallwood said that he is honoured to represent the Council as its new Chair, especially at a time when gold’s importance is becoming more relevant. There is no better industry body to advocate the case of gold than the Council, he said. Further, he will lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading standards to support the gold industry, added Smallwood.

Meantime, David Tait, Chief Executive of the World Gold Council noted that Randy brings a wealth of knowledge and industry experience, which will prove valuable to the Council’s way forward.
