WestRock Broke Ground on $47 Million Expansion at Claremont Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): West Rock Company broke ground on expansion at its Claremont consumer packaging facility. The $47 million investment aims to expand the facility by approximately 285,000 square foot. The new investment will further deepen the company’s roots in the region.

The project, funded by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, will create nearly 50 new jobs by the end of next year. The salaries for the new employees will meet Catawba County’s average wage of $43,920.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Jason Smitherman, Project Manager, WestRock noted that the company has operated on these grounds for 25 long years. The investment ensures that there are many more such investments to come in future. He thanked the City of Claremont, Catawba County and the state of North Carolina, without the co-operation and commitment of whom the project would not have been possible, he added.

The other partners in the project included the N.C. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Catawba County EDC, Western Piedmont Council of Governments, and Matthews Construction.

The expanded facility will produce sustainable, fiber-based packaging for world’s leading food, food service and beverage brands. It must be noted that the facility is part of the company’s consumer packaging business.
