Western Forest Products, PPWC Signed New 8-Year Collective Agreement

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Vancouver, B.C-based Western Forest Products Inc. (WFP) announced that it has reached a new collective agreement with the Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC), Local 8.

The new eight-year agreement was ratified by PPWC members at WFP Ladysmith sawmill. The agreement, covering nearly 70 hourly employees at the mill, will be in effect from 1st January, 2021 and will be valid until 31st December, 2028. The collective agreement provides for general wage increase of 3% in the first two years, 2% in third year, 2.5% in fourth year and 2% each in fifth to eighth year.

Don Demens, President and Chief Executive Officer, WFP noted that the company is pleased to have jointly reached a positive outcome that reflects the valued contributions of its employees. The new agreement is an important step in providing long-term certainty and stability for its employees, communities and customers.

Meantime, Rod Gallant, President, PPWC, Local 8 said that the union is pleased to conclude the agreement quickly. It is the result of the members’ collective desire to support a vibrant coastal forest sector that secures hundreds of jobs for years to come.

Earlier, the company had reached a new five-year collective agreement with United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 (USW) which is valid until June 2024.
