SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The grant awarded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is expected to advance plastic recycling in Thailand. The feasibility study will focus on implementation of pyrolysis technique which uses a high-temperature process to treat plastic waste. The process will generate pyrolysis oil, which could be used an alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The facility will play a key role in diverting plastic waste from existing waste management methods such as incineration, thereby reducing emissions.

The grant is part of USTDA’s commitment to connect U.S. industry to major clean energy and transportation infrastructure projects in emerging markets.

Commenting on the development, Enoh T. Ebong, Director, USTDA said that it fully supports Thailand’s ambitious goals to combat the economic and environmental consequences of plastic pollution. The aid will catalyze private sector investment in highly innovative plastic recycling technologies, he added.
