U.S. Steel's New Acquisition to Boost Advanced High-Strength Steel Portfolio

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced that it has acquired the flat rolled sheet patents and trademarks of The NanoSteel Company, Inc. The acquisition will boost the company’s portfolio of innovative solutions to produce advanced high-strength steel. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The patented proprietary alloys, designed and manufactured by the NanoSteel Company, is said to derive exceptional mechanical properties from their nano-scale microstructure. The technique creates products which combine extreme strength and enhanced formability. Moreover, these grades could be rolled thicker than other high-strength grades. They are primarily designed for automotive and heavy industrial applications.

David B. Burritt, President and Chief Executive Officer, U.S. Steel stated that the company is pleased to offer our customers yet another set of advanced high-strength steel grades. These products are in line with its Best of Both Strategy. Furthermore, they complement and expand its already strong offering of advanced high-strength steels.

The acquisition of the majority of intellectual property of The NanoSteel Company makes U.S. Steel the sole owner and producer of its internationally recognized high-strength steel grades.
