SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based leading steelmaker, United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced that it has reached an agreement to supply automotive major, General Motors (GM) with verdeX steel- the advanced and sustainable steel solution developed by it.
The manufacturing process of this steel category causes 75% fewer emissions upon comparison with traditional blast furnace production. Also, it comprises of up to 90% recycled content, the company press release noted.

U.S. Steel will manufacture verdeX at its Big River Steel facility. It intends to ship the steel produced at the facility to GM’s manufacturing facilities at the earliest. In addition, verdeX will also be produced from the new advanced technology mill which is under construction in Osceola, Arkansas.
Ken Jaycox, U. S. Steel Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer noted that the company is pleased to join GM in its mission to promote a world with zero emissions by providing an advanced and sustainable steel product, as part of its Best for All strategy. The verdeX steel offers advanced high strength capabilities and lower emissions during manufacturing process.
