The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 74.129 million net tons during the initial ten months of the current year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) suggests that steel shipments during the month of October this year surged higher when compared with the same month a year ago. Also, the shipments recorded modest increase over the prior month.
According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.346 million net tons in October 2023. This is modestly higher by 1.9% upon comparison with the shipments of 7.210 million net tons in the same month a year before. At the same time, the shipments during the month witnessed modest increase by 1.3% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 7.253 million net tons in September this year.

The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 74.129 million net tons during the initial ten months of the current year. This is modestly down by 2.0% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 75.675 million net tons during January to October in 2022.
The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the first ten months of 2023. The shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet during this period declined by nearly 2% over the previous year. The shipments of cold rolled sheet remained unchanged. Meantime, hot rolled sheet shipments surged higher by 8%, upon comparison with the initial ten months of 2022, AISI noted.
