U.S. Raw Steel Output Dropped Substantially From Prior Week

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 9.50% during the week ending on January 1, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.785 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 80.9%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.630 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 73.4% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal decline by 0.9% over the week. The production was 1.802 million NT during the week ended December 25, 2021.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 707,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 629,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-183, Midwest-197 and Western-69.

The above are estimates based on weekly production tonnage provided by approximately 50% of the domestic production capacity along with most recent monthly production data for the remainder.
