SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The plans to build the UK’s first plastic recycling park in Cheshire were announced. The plant will be built at an investment of £165m and is expected to feature innovative processing and treatment technologies to deal with tonnes of plastic waste.

The park will have a material recycling facility (MRF), which will separate out dry mixed recyclable materials into different waste streams. The first plastics recycling facility at the park will separate plastic from the MRF and mixed plastics into different plastic types. The separated plastic will be either sent to the second plastic recycling facility or the PET recycling plant at the park.
The second plastics recycling plant will wash and process pre-sorted plastic from the first plant into flaked plastic for reuse. The polymer laminate recycling facility will heat plastic to break them down into an oil, which will be used along with recovered aluminum for manufacturing new products. The park will also have a hydrogen filling station.
The recycling park is expected to deliver creative solutions to the UK’s plastic problem and underpin the circular economy in the North West, noted Richard Barker, development director at Peel NRE-subsidiary of developer Peel L&P Environmental.
