SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In response to the Trump administration's proposed 25% tariffs on aluminum imports into the United States, Coca-Cola made a suggestion that the business would place more focus on plastic bottles.
James Quincy, the CEO of the company, stated on the earnings call that if input costs put pressure on one packaging material, the company will keep looking at other packaging options. Aluminum cans might become more costly as a result of the tariffs, which might compel the business to concentrate more on PET bottles and other alternatives. However, he continued, the tariffs are also expected to have an adverse effect on the United States.
Quincy, meanwhile, resisted efforts to inflate the effects of tariffs on the system as a whole. He noted that although the expected price increase is not negligible, it is unlikely to cause a big shift in business because packing only makes up a small portion of the packaging industry as a whole.
Aluminum cans are imported by Coca-Cola from Canada. In the event that tariffs are imposed on March 12, 2025, the cans may be more expensive. By the way, almost half of the aluminum used in the United States is imported. The United States will have to import materials from China or Russia as a result of imposing taxes on Canadian goods, which could endanger national security.
