MAN reiterated that a ban on plastic is a move in the wrong direction and should be discontinued.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Nigerian government's prohibition on specific single-use plastics (SUPs) has being contested by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). By the way, the prohibition is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2025.
MAN's Director-General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, asked the authorities to investigate how such a ban would affect people's lives and the economy. Although he recognized the good intentions behind the ban's implementation, he cautioned that prohibiting might not be sufficient to address the root cause. He went on to say that the government ought to concentrate on enhancing the collection and handling of plastic garbage.
He emphasized that by strengthening its recycling infrastructure, the nation could reap major economic and environmental rewards. It should be mentioned that fewer than 15% of Nigeria's plastic packaging is now recycled. Due to a shortage of feedstock, the current facilities are viewed as being underutilized. According to him, this emphasizes how crucial it is to make significant adjustments to collection methods.
MAN restated the idea that a plastic ban is a bad idea and need to be lifted. Additionally, it reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the public sector to develop policies that support domestic manufacturing.
