Suspects Nabbed for Cable Copper Theft Worth R2.3M

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Four suspects, including a scrap metal yard owner, are set to appear in a Durban court on Monday in connection with suspected stolen copper cable worth R2.3 million.

The group was arrested in Isipingo over the weekend.

Officials say a police task team were tipped off about the cables being kept in a cold storage facility in the area, south of the city.

The KZN SAPS' Robert Netshiunda says officers also found that the scrap metal yard was operating illegally.

"With the owner failing to account for the illegal copper cables and the bus bars stored in his yard, he and other three people who were working at the warehouse were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

"More charges related to economic sabotage are likely to be added as investigations continue."
