SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Finland-based packaging major Stora Enso announced multiple investments in boosting the production of specialised pulp grades in the European region.
According to company news release, it invested EUR 38 million in unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) production at its Enocell site in Finland, in support for growing demand for non-bleached renewable packaging materials and EUR 42 million in fluff pulp production improvement at its Skutskar site in Sweden to boost hygiene products output.

The investment in the Enocell site will offer it the flexibility to produce UKP and Nordic Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp. It will significantly reduce consumption of bleaching chemicals, as a result of which the carbon footprint per tonne of UKP will be lower by one-fifth. The investment is expected to be completed during the last quarter of 2024.
The investment in Skutskar site will further strengthen Stora Enso’s position as the leading fluff pulp producer in Europe, in addition to improving work safety. The investment is expected to be completed during Q2 2024.
Johanna Hagelberg, Executive Vice President, Biomaterials division at Stora Enso noted that the investments will optimise its pulp portfolio and result in improvement in production and sustainability performance.
