Worldsteel Reveals Top 10 Steel Producing Countries for September 2025

The U.S. produced 6.9 Mt of steel in September 2025, up by 6.7% when compared with the prior year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has unveiled its latest ranking of the top 10 steel-producing nations for September 2025, highlighting contrasting trends across major producers.
China retained its position as the world’s largest steel producer, despite a notable 4.6% year-on-year decline in crude steel output to 73.5 million tonnes (Mt). The country’s cumulative production from January to September stood at 746.3 Mt, down 2.9% compared to the same period last year, reflecting weaker industrial demand and output controls.
Meanwhile, India continued its upward trajectory, producing 13.6 Mt of crude steel in September — a 13.2% surge from the previous year. The country’s total output for the first nine months of 2025 reached 122.4 Mt, driven by strong demand from infrastructure, real estate, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.
Japan reported a 3.7% decline in monthly output to 6.9 Mt, with year-to-date production down 4.5% to 60.5 Mt. In contrast, the United States recorded a 6.7% increase to 6.9 Mt, underscoring steady industrial activity.
Other key producers included Russia (5.2 Mt, down 3.8%), South Korea (5.0 Mt), Turkiye (3.2 Mt), Germany (3.1 Mt), Brazil (2.8 Mt), and Iran (2.3 Mt).
Among the top ten, China posted the steepest decline, while India achieved the strongest growth, reinforcing its position as the world’s second-largest steel producer and underscoring its expanding role in the global steel market.
